Q: Tell us something about your journey in the world of beauty and makeup. How did you start?
It was with a mere stroke of destiny and passion towards beauty and makeup that turned me – ‘would be Interior designer’ into a makeup professional. After graduating from London College of Makeup in Dubai, I returned to India with dreams of starting my brand, which escalated with opening up a luxury unisex salon in South Delhi, India in 2017.
Slowly and gradually, the salon got famous. I was overwhelmed to see the love which people have been giving to me and my brand. I feel blessed to see where I have reached today. It feels like a dream has come true for me. To be able to make a woman’s most important day memorable for her entire life, to be able to see the admirable smile on their face after they look at themselves in the mirror, gives me immense pleasure as nothing else can. I would never trade such life for anything else in this world, as I believe I was destined to make every woman feel truly heavenly by bringing out the best in them now and for years to come.
Q: Share with us the experiences you have had in the London Makeup School? How has it helped you grow as a makeup artist?
It was altogether a new adventure for me; I’ve never lived in another country all by myself. Taking cabs and switching to metro train, making new friends who’ve come from different countries was thrilling.
Not having a makeup background and starting with creative makeup straight away was like giving myself a shocker, but it was so much fun because that’s how I realised how much I love makeup, art and creativity. I feel, “GETTING OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE MAKE YOU REALISE A LOT MANY THINGS”.
I learned many new things like the history of makeup, makeup trends, makeup genres – fashion, wedding, face and body painting, cinematic. Creative makeup looks – Avant-garde, pop art, SFX and a lot more.
Learning in Dubai was a turning point in my life. I think everyone should go on a solo trip, be it for work or learn something new. It just opens so many doors and gives you memorable experiences. You get a lot of time to find who you are, and you get to spend so much time with yourself.
Q: How do you think the beauty industry in India has been evolving? What differences have you observed?
The beauty and makeup industry has evolved drastically with time. The trend continues to improvise itself and come back with something new every time. We, as Indians, are following the modern makeup trend religiously. People have started to focus more on skincare and believe that skincare is thriving because good skin eventually enhances their makeup.
Makeup awareness has been increased amongst people, and they have started to love makeup more and more. Also, DIY beauty, natural beauty products and eCommerce have become quite popular compared to the previous era.
Q: How do you think the pandemic has impacted your business and the industry as a whole?
The pandemic, unfortunately, has affected all the industries globally. Everyone is affected in a way or another. What needs to be done in this current situation is to take extra care of yourself, your loved ones and everyone around you. Just like everyone else, the beauty industry is also facing tough times.
All we’re hoping is that we overcome this soon and things get back to normal very soon.
Q: What leisure activities you like to indulge in when not working.
Even in my free and leisure time, I try getting out of the box to indulge more with creative makeup. I explore the creative ideas of turning myself into different characters using the power of makeup. Apart from this, I am very inclined towards fitness. So, I spend my time in Yoga, Exercise, Cycling, Zumba and Morning Jogs.
After all, if I am spared some time, I prefer playing Badminton with my friends or swimming with my family.
Q: Being a renowned personality, what is your take on Social Media overload. How do you find your me-time amid all the social media chatter?
This is a very crucial question, and I would love to answer this because I have some expert advice on this as I, too, have experienced social media pressure. I know there’s a lot of competition, and posting your work on social media becomes a task. The comparison on social media creates a lot of pressure on an individual, which is unnecessary. So, a social media detox is always a good idea after a while.
That’s the mantra I follow. Since I am highly active and addicted to social media because of my work, I prefer pulling out my ME-TIME with a break from my phone and getting back to the social media later.
