Suraj Singh Rawat is a rapper, singer, lyricist, actor popularly known as Suraj Tratak belonging to Uttarakhand, Dehradun City. He is one of the few Rap-Artist from Uttarakhand who build the Rap scene in UK.
He Started with his musical Career back in 2012-13, along with his crew. He started Rapping in Hindi but after some time he realized that he must work for his culture and cultural language. At that time youth of Uttarakhand were not that into their own culture they weren’t feeling pride for their cultural richness and language.
Suraj Tratak decided to rap in his regional language, Pahari (Garhwali Kumauni), with his brother Uday Singh Rawat so that he can make youngsters feel proud in what they are, and he became the founder of Pahari Rap in Uttarakhand.
Along with his fellow musician, Suraj Tratak brought revolution in Uttarakhand music industry and many big artists like Sonu Nigam, Badshah, shared their songs and appreciated them. Gradually, youth of Uttarakhand started following their cultural songs and it created a new wave. Later, Suraj did a song for popular spiritual Leader, Jaggi Vasudev popularly known as ‘Sadhguru’ and in the year 2018, he represented Uttarakhand in TEDX talk, Where he discussed about the beauty and problems in the society of Uttarakhand. He is also awarded by many leaders for his work like former CM Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank, Trivendra Singh Rawat, current CM Pushkar Singh Dhami.
Suraj Tratak gave many songs to the industry, in his songs he generally talks about water scarcity, women empowerment, inter-cast Marriage, pollution free environment and other important issues.
Suraj Tratak is a unique name and as explains the meaning of his name, he mentions that “Suraj means quite Spiritual being on the other hand, Tratak is a Yoga sadhana which I practiced from childhood. This yoga helped me in increasing my concentration, enhancing confidence level and gave many other spiritual benefits. I want to share this knowledge with everyone that’s why I chose this name for myself.”
Suraj is still trying to work for his culture and help it to grow and to be recognized globally. He is trying to build Hip-hop scene in Uttarakhand in his own style.
