The multi-talented cinematographer, well known for his movies ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’, ‘Kalank’, ‘Devdas’ and ‘Rang de Basanti’ considers himself a dreamer.
When asked about his childhood, he speaks lovingly about it. He says he has always been a dreamer, weaving stories and spending time in photography. He says he has always enjoyed clicking pictures of landscapes and people.
He has always had a tinge of creativity in himself. Even as a kid, he shares how he enjoyed watching photographs of Tibetans from Tibet and how it intrigued him. He has always been engrossed in photography, later got into college and learned cinematography. It was his interest in photography that later led him to the world of cinematography.
About his break in the industry, he says after working as an assistant to
different cinematographers, he started working independently. After a
few documentaries, a financial mess and a whole lot of understanding, he
eventually started getting work and then there was no looking back.
Binod is a dedicated and hardworking cinematographer, in context to his
work. When prompted about a project closest to this heart, he says he can’t
really choose one. Each project has a different requirement, and the harder he works on a film, the closer it gets to his heart.
His message to the young dreamers of the industry is to work hard. He says
that one should eat, drink and breathe passion. One should not be distracted or solely motivated because of the glamour the industry holds.
