The Importance of Accountability in Parliamentary Sessions: A Critique of Disruptions by the Opposition

In recent weeks, the Lok Sabha, a key part of India’s democracy, has been repeatedly disrupted, mainly by the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Regular walkouts, unruly behavior, and constant disturbances have not only stalled important legislative work but also raised questions about the opposition’s role in promoting meaningful dialogue in Parliament.
The Lok Sabha is where elected representatives debate policies, pass laws, and hold the government accountable. Disruptions undermine this process and, in turn, democracy itself. All political parties, no matter their position, are expected to participate in debates, review laws, and maintain the decorum of the House. Unfortunately, the opposition’s recent actions have fallen short of this responsibility.

Both the Congress and AAP have defended their actions by pointing to issues like the Adani controversy and alleged foreign interference. However, their methods—ignoring decorum and procedural rules—have turned serious concerns into political drama.
The Congress has repeatedly stalled proceedings over issues like the caste census and the Manipur crisis, even when these topics were scheduled for discussion. This approach suggests a preference for creating chaos over engaging in productive conversations.
The AAP has added to the disorder with personal attacks and baseless allegations, drawing attention away from important matters. Their provocative statements have further disrupted the proceedings.
Each wasted minute costs taxpayers’ money and delays legislation that could address urgent issues like unemployment, inflation, and infrastructure development.

These actions also damage India’s reputation as a thriving democracy. Scenes of adjournments and chaos broadcast worldwide give an impression of dysfunction, eroding public trust in democratic institutions.

While the opposition has every right to challenge the government, it must do so responsibly. Constructive criticism based on facts and presented within parliamentary rules strengthens democracy. The opposition must realize that their role isn’t just to obstruct but also to offer solutions and contribute to policymaking.

The ruling BJP has made efforts to address the opposition’s concerns by setting aside time for discussions on key issues. It’s essential for opposition parties to engage in these discussions rather than resorting to disruptions.

The Lok Sabha is a place to address the country’s most pressing issues. Disruptions by the Congress and AAP not only delay progress but also break the trust of voters. It’s time for the opposition to prioritize the nation’s interests over political gains. By doing so, they can uphold the dignity of Parliament and contribute meaningfully to India’s democratic progress.

I have been interested in fashion, art and music all of my life. I was born in Chicago. My parents were both in the music industry with my dad being a successful jazz arranger and composer and my mom a jazz singer. Our home was always filled with creatives growing up. In my teens my father retired and we moved to Menorca, Spain where I studied History of Art and other subjects in Barcelona.

From there I decided I would go into fashion and study fashion design, pattern cutting and toilage at Jeffryn Byrs College Prive Stylist Modeliste, Paris for one year. After Paris I moved to London to study at Saint Martins. I graduated with a BA degree and was headhunted to work as a designer in Milan for Ilsa Grebner after which I returned to London and worked as a designer for Miz and Ghost for Tanya Sarne, The Ritz, then as the head designer for Lana Linea and Pink.

After an accident I then continued to work in fashion and entertainment PR with Just Associates PR. I worked on PR for ON/OFF catwalk show and a fashion show at Robin Gibb’s home showing Mark Powell in collaboration with Paul Costelloe. Robin Gibb was one of our PR clients, amongst others. I also enjoy writing articles on talented up and coming as well as famous designers. I’ve worked as a correspondent for Book Moda, Ufashion and continue to write and publish articles as Fashion, Art and Entertainment Editor for Just News International ( JNI ).

I have always loved creating still enjoy doing so with my art work and the odd fashion piece. Having worked most of my life in fashion, I find mentoring and supporting creative talent very rewarding as well.

I love the passion, inclusivity, talent and positive creative buzz in the fashion industry which always inspires me.

Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen and Dries van Norton are two of my favourite influential designers and will be missed as they have both just stepped down. This Spring / Summer 24 the fashion trends will be sheer skirts, layers and slips, deconstructed garments, bralets, crochet details as well as crochet pants, tops, dresses and overgarments, creative draping, peplum silhouettes, bold shoulders, fringes, exaggerated sizing in garments and shorts and minis. I always cover London Fashion Week which is so inspirational. The catwalk collection that I loved the most for LFW AW 24 has to be Paul Costelloe. His collections are always amazing.

Designer – Carole Thompson ,aka CeeTee of CeeTee Designs, is an Eclectic Creative, this is shown through her unusual designs.

Though not always a designer, Carole has always had a creative mind and an artistic talent.She grew up with an artistic father and grandfather before him.

Carole started out as a caterer prior to her career change, she had set up a catering business called “Classy Creations” making canapés for events, however when the covid pandemic hit, the business suffered so Carole had to rethink her career choices.

Carole suffered a breakdown and she was coached by her close friend and mentor. He suggested she write a book as her poetry flowed when she was healing. He then suggested she look at her other talents like Artwork and to do something with that.

Carole promised that she would look at what she could do with her art. She promised to make it work. .

After returning to the “Drawing Board” Carole had ideas and the pens, paper, paints and camera came out and she looked at what she could design making pictures and artwork more exciting.

Once she got back into the swing of art, ideas flowed and her company was created. “CeeTee Designs” became a reality and are unique with a catalog spanning paintings, prints, as well as her unique collection of wearables and accessories. Sadly her friend and mentor, Dr Philip Chan, never saw the progression as he sadly passed away in October 2021.

Carole has already made a forceful impact in the London Fashion scene since her first fashion show in the Autumn 2022. Her designs are created to be as fun and individual as her customers.

A collection of paintings ,drawings and photography, which are added to garments chosen to brighten up your look and add personality to your style.

The designs are of our beautiful world, surroundings, plants, objects, flowers, animals, insects and ‘thoughts’ to give you something familiar but different to enjoy.

Carole’s belief in helping others to find their own uniqueness and talent earned her a lot of attention.

In 2022 she was awarded the (Brent Unsung hero) ‘Women of Excellence Award’ by Author Janelle Victory and the Mayors award for ‘Unite Peace, unity and Diversity’ by ‘Wages UK’.

Many people enjoy the unique designs and have changed their ‘usual’ dress code and ‘converted’ to “CeeTee Designs”.

Photographers who work with Carole know that the models who showcase the designs ‘Love’ wearing the outfits and enjoy the photos that are taken as they all look like they are having fun. Photographers have loved being a part of that as it gave them some really good images and they also had fun photographing models enjoying the clothes.

Carole recently was approached to join models and designers to showcase in October 2023 ‘London Fashion Week’ where her designs were seen at the event by some prestigious sponsors inclusive of ‘Lipsy London’, ‘Marie Claire’ magazine, ‘Condé Naste’

(publishers of Vogue), Elle magazine, Luxs London and more.

Carole considers her artistic ability a gift from her father , Paul Mullen 05/01/1938 – 11/06/2006, a gifted artist In his own right. Paul’s passing led to a wish in Carole, to bring the joy of art to more people. One of the ways she does this is through her ‘CeeTee’ brand. She also wanted the Designer brand to be affordable to all.

Carole has appeared on TV, You Tube and radio interviews.

Carole recently attended the 529 club as a speaker to talk about her journey for ‘International Women’s Day’. The 529 are a club for creative people some of whom are from Hollywood, Bollywood, and Nollywood. There’s Directors, musicians, models, producers, Designers, singers, poets, artists, painters, and so many more creatives.

1- With your Guinness World Record and being named Emirati Businessperson of the Year, how do you view yourself amidst these achievements in your daily life, and where do you go from here?
Ans: I think everything was planed and processed, so that was a surprise. So, you put the work and it all comes to you and we are like oh surprised like this. Everything we had to work for it and then plan it and process eventually.

2-How did your journey with Dubai Aqua Fun Park begin? What inspired you to start this inflatable water park and delve into providing enjoyable activities for people every weekend?
Ans: No idea, it`s a long story. I have been doing this now for 13 years now. We start with hearing that people are amazed with these something to do with the kids and start doing our researches and this idea came through. Then when we started and where we are now there its two different things obviously. So, a lot of people said no to us. In the 1^st year we were rejected 617 times. It was like oh first try first go and you Emirati like don`t know and people are saying no, no, no eventually. And we kept going and the genius thing is that we never quit. So, when you go to a race, we all have the same goals but the difference is like the process and the systems. Many people do not have them or the system of process or the work behind it.

3- Do you think it was a tough task and you kept doing it and doing it to reach the target?

Ans: you don`t complain, when you want the target , you have a goal and you go on. You don`t complain that it`s hard and that`s how it`s going to be awesome and you can do it.

4- As the CEO of the year by business Arabia, what leadership principals do you attribute to your success?

Ans: I think it`s choosing the right team and surrounded by trust worthy people. You have to find people who share your vision and share your goals and reach there. That is very important and having people with the right IQ and EQ also and it`s very important for business and treat them right , be kind, be nice to your people and people want to be seen and heard and you give them these two things and there will be there for you. And I would say that we are just warming up and still far away to reach them.

5- We know that you are the world record holder so how did that journey started, would you like to share some story about it?
Ans: we were going to get bankrupted basically and we had our money put in these two projects and these two guys a week before we launch it said that we don`t want to do this anymore I said we put the money and six months later you are telling me that you want this. So, we were struck ok, so now we need to pay the other half a million and there was no money out. So, either go broke or figure something out. So, in business or in your life the most important thing is the destination is the company and and I spoke with my best friend and he said let`s figure this out and then we came up with this idea that let`s make a biggest one in the world. So, we put this together and I wrote I love Expo 2020 Dubai and from there it`s history.

6- So, the idea of Aqua fun seems both innovative and exciting. So, can you please walk us through the process that how you conceptualize this venture and transform this into reality?

Ans: so, we are in the business of creating happy memories, so that was the main vehicle and what we do is the installing the small thing that we do it, so we said the emotion itself. The emotion is very powerful and people having fun , enjoying themselves , becomes the track of emotion itself. And I think it worked well from there.

7- As an entrepreneur, you’ve encountered numerous challenges and hurdles. Just like a raft navigating through ups and downs with additions and subtractions, how did you overcome obstacles to drive forward the success of Dubai Aqua Fun Park?

Ans: I don`t understand quick thinkers like you have a goal and if you didn`t get it then why would you stop. We all going to have obstacles and we know it but that`s not mean that we quit to fast and that`s the issue when you know you can figure out anything by yourself then you need to figure it out by asking questions and learn from the mistakes. So, the more you fail the more you restate faster because you would a lot of thresholds of the previous experiences. I didn1t have the accountant, lawyers and mentors in the beginning so the 1^st 3or 4 years were very hard on business and so many problems and obstacles. So, you have to ask for help as you might know a few thinks but need to ask for help from the experienced people. Most people don’t want to justify paying money to these people and say like I don`t have the money to pay it and but I would suggest you to pay it because in a long time it will save you from headaches.

8- What kind of a message would you like to give to the young generation, who have dreamed and want to follow it but again comes back to money segment?
Answer: the problem is not that dream is a goal. Your dream is like you are see as a goal, you mark it there and plan it and that`s all. If your goal is just money then you lost already. I met people who are talking about dollars so in a sense they are about the money only. Money is good to have yes but its not it. You need the peace of mind; you have the family you have to love and you the the relationships and so and on. Having money is fun , yes absolutely but people think it’s the ultimate goal. But its not because after you have all this money then what you are going to do, you buy all the cars and go to all the places and then what you are going to do. Are you coming back home alone with no family and friends? And talking about the question I would say excuses as the time I open a business I didn`t have the money, I wasn`t born to a rich family or something. I had no money, had to figure out something to sell and do the first initials step and then grow that and then go do the process again.

It takes time and it takes a lot of time.

9- Talking to a CEO and a person who is Mr. Ahmed, they are two different personalities. So how can we differentiate them?

Ans: you cannot. It`s absolutely the same. I am the same person as the CEO and the me in person. The best things are I don`t look at these things at all and I still go to the beach and I still do things with my staff and I am still in the water. So, I mean I don`t see myself as that as I only have office where I sit down and talk who I am. And I don`t like that barrier between me and the person and I haven`t entered office in maybe 6 years. For me it`s like sit down and casually talk like that and you and me as equal.

10 -What are the future prospects for Dubai Aqua Fun? Did you ever envision something like this in your childhood, with water splashing, kids having fun, and parents relaxing from their busy schedules at an aqua fun park?
Ans: umm… this year we should be able to get 4 more Guinness World Records and a couple of new awards and scale the business hopefully 700% . its only by hitting crazy goals . I might achieve 300% but need to think 700%. There was no childhood thinking. I realized that it is a niche and need and I provided it. That all it takes. You need to simplified the things. Don`t overcomplicate it as it a very basic thing. Like now I am switching from this to a very different mode of business as they are more fun. Everybody wants to be in 60 business and that`s cool but saturate it and you can be in the car wash and barber shop and everyone wants to be a influencer but not that and you can make more money in that but nobody wants to be that.

The believe and trust on my own self and my hard work and determination are some key elements which has made me stand out. I was a corporate person always but being excepted as a socialite in the social group was a big challenge but because of people’s love and support it just happened. It’s also my family and friends who have stood up for me. With regards to people trust and faith, they are mature enough to understand who’s genuine. I am sure they feel me.

3- Balancing a high-profile career in luxury brand promotion with motherhood is undoubtedly challenging. Can you share some insights into how you’ve successfully managed both aspects of your life, especially returning to events shortly after giving birth? How do you maintain discipline and commitment in your daily lifestyle, including your food habits and exercise routine?

I think the discipline comes from your genes. My dad is an officer and he is quite disciplined at the age of 70 also. I feel that I am just following him. I have a big family support who has made me to stand soon after 40 days of my delivery. I have worked hard towards what I have achieved in these two years and I knew I have to continue it as in this industry people forget very easily. I want my daughter to be proud of her mom. I love myself and with that consistency and discipline comes into the picture. With my daily exercise, my food habits are equally good and healthy.

1 – You’re a trailblazer in the fashion industry. How do you balance your role as the Group Director of Pret Study by Janak Fashions Pvt. Ltd and your creative involvement with Study by Janak?

When it comes to handling the brand, I have always been moving focus towards the creative part as well as the promotion part of it. What you are mentioning here is for me just one role instead of two different rules. Being a Group director for me does not stop at only handling the teams Taking strategic decisions, even the creative side comes with it. from merchandising to the shoots, to marketing and promotions, to displays even client handling, for me it comes all together.

2- Given your journey from a traditional joint family to becoming a successful entrepreneur, how do you think women’s empowerment has evolved in the business world?

I always say and believe that each one has its own journey. My coming from a traditional joint family did pave away for me when it comes to balancing the home and the career aspect. Today it is nice to see that women have the choice of stepping out of home along with handling the familiar responsibilities and definitely evolution is pretty visible whether it is in the business world or the corporate world. What is most important is that one gets to exercise the right to choose whether to stay at home or whether it is going out to work. even the roles and responsibilities that were early or limited for a male domain and now Opening up for women.

3- As a leading woman entrepreneur, what challenges did you face early in your career, and how did you overcome them to achieve your current status?

One of my biggest challenges has been to make way in a brand that was from primarily a male dominated brand. I started working in the marketing segment of the brand and eventually started my women line which was more because of the recommendations of friends and family and since then establishing the communication for the brand has been my focus. Advertising and Marketing are very hard cock areas when it comes to negotiation and handling the agencies, having men doing that part. I have been blessed to have great teams working with me and even good agency did not give me such a hard time But like I said no success stories are made overnight or without any challenges and I have had my share but looking back at it today everything for me was a great learning point.

4- With your extensive experience, how do you see the role of women in entrepreneurship changing in India, especially on the occasion of Women’s Day?

I don’t think we need to look at any day to acknowledge that women are empowered. For me the day a woman gets to exercise her own choice whether it be her career or family or anything at all that is the day when they are truly empowered. Whereas, as far as the role of women in entrepreneurship is concerned, I think a lot of women today are coming forward with their unique ideas and starting unique businesses in this landscape which I think is great. Also, the acceptability about the fact that a Startup of a very innovative idea can come from a woman and it can work has seen a massive difference.

5- Your approach to entrepreneurship is deeply rooted in emotional involvement. How does this Emotional connection drives your decision-making process, especially when faced with challenges?

When it comes to my decision making, I would always like to gauge all my options and of course the emotional part is always involved in it because I always believed that anything that comes from your heart truly helps you move forward in the right direction of course with the balance of the mind. And as far as challenges are concerned every decision that I make which has any difficulty is involved in it. I always like to weigh all my options and locate it from a very human perspective considering that there is more than one person involved in it. Of course, I always like to involve my teams in the entire decision-making process.

6- In the male-dominated world of business, how do you think events like Women’s Day contribute to raising awareness about the achievements and challenges faced by women entrepreneurs?

Like I mentioned before I do not think you need any one day to celebrate women empowerment. It’s not what I think the Idea of women empowerment is.

7- Given your background in fashion and entrepreneurship, if you had to pick one fashion trend that represents the spirit of women empowerment, what would it be?

One fashion trend would be embracing the feminine side along with a modern touch to it. Also, I will not point it out to your train but I think the fact that even today when it comes to occasion where a woman likes to dress traditional but in her own modern way which I think is quite liberating

8- Your company, Study by Janak, specializes in Stylized Occasion Wear. How do you think the fashion industry can further contribute to promoting and celebrating women’s individuality and Empowerment?

Like I mentioned before I think that when we are talking about stylized occasion wear, we want to convey this to our women clientele that we have a huge range for them which will help them embrace their own true self. Our collection is definitely still quite rooted in our traditions yet it has a flare of modernity and contemporary to it, which makes it ideal for the women of today

9- In your opinion, how can successful women entrepreneurs like yourself inspire and mentor the next generation of aspiring businesswomen, especially in the context of Women’s Day?

I think when somebody reaches the benchmark of being termed as successful it is important that at that time, they start hand holding the younger generation and mentoring young Minds to make the way forward because truly that’s how the torch of women empowerment can be taken to the next level. From my side I always make sure that I become part of such initiative where young women are looking and making a mark with the own unique ideas and that I am there as a mentor to help them succeed in the goal

10 – As a successful entrepreneur, what is the significance of Women’s Day for you personally, and what message would you like to convey to women aspiring to make their mark in the business world?

Honestly for me each day is a woman’s day for me, as it is every day, I get a chance to make a difference in the life of a woman whether she is a homemaker or someone who is starting off or my team members or my younger generation, every time I am able to help them in achieving their goals, is what makes true Women’s Day celebration for me.

1. Can you tell us about your journey from Kolkata to becoming a successful supermodel and actress?
Ans. Since childhood, I have been keen on this field and I had support from my parents provided I completed my studies been a school topper. It all started as a passion for me while I was pursuing my engineering followed by my job as an
investment banker. I was in Mumbai in an investment bank and thought also to try my luck out there.

2. How did your educational background in engineering, and finance, and your Ph.D. from Harvard influence your career in the entertainment industry?
Ans. It is true and many people knowing my educational background ask me the same. This has been my passion since my college days and thought let’s give it a try. In Kolkata, my first involvement was as a fashion model in a small show followed by a fashion week.
3. Winning titles like Miss South India Charming 2022 and Miss India World 2022 must have been incredible achievements. Could you share your experiences during those competitions?
Ans. Yes absolutely, I was very active in sports and used to be a head prefect in my school days. These things I feel teach us how to handle situations irrespective of whatever domain we opt for. I was an investment banker and when I participated in the south-based pageant. I managed just to be myself that`s it.

4. Being recognized by the London World of Records and FTPC for your excellence in acting and modeling is impressive. What do these awards mean to you, and how have they impacted your career?
Well, the awards mean a lot to me being from a non-filmy background, with very less months of theater experience. If people like and appreciate my work that is the most precious gift for me from the audience being an artist.
