There was a time much-much before I became a fashion designer, my friends and family members used to come to me for my fashion critique about the way they dressed or what will be appropriate wear for them. They really listened and appreciated my suggestions for change of clothing which is more suitable for their body-type. That’s purely because the change I suggested complimented their most attractive features and they felt to be at their best in those shoes or clothing of my choice. About seven years ago, if you had met me, then you must have thought of me as a boring IT administrator at her desk job. This dream about becoming a fashion designer became a passion and I ended up taking the
entrepreneurial plunge.

If you weren’t a fashion designer/businesswomen, what would you be?

Though, I never really pictured myself as anything other than a designer. I will just go with the profession that inspires me and reminds me of the time when I dressed up as an Army Officer for a fancy dress competition, when I was very young. The moment I picture myself in Army uniform, it brings out my love for my country and its people. I think, now that you asked me this question, that I would have been an
army officer, if not wrapping beautiful people in lovely dresses.

When you’re not busy, what are some of your favorite things to do?

I find Music has healing powers, and nowadays, I binge watch TV shows or movies.

Which five words would your friends use to describe you?

Sometimes, the time at work gets harsh, continuously working for days and the planning, the time spent on accumulating raw materials or managing finances, sales and people can take a toil. But, I allow myself some time for off every three to four months. Take breaks to keep the balance. Why, of course, all work and no play will make me burn out my fire more quickly. You know, I still have a long way to go.

Share your fitness mantra? 

Eat right since it all starts in the kitchen Your body is a temple, think twice before you choose to eat something.

As a fashion designer, what kind of clothing do you design  and how is it creating value to those who buy those designer clothes?

To create value, for me essentially means creating designer clothes/ensembles that suit any body type and also, enhance the personality of the person wearing it. You can say, my designs are more  circumstantial/occasion centric with not only what pleases the eye but also, pleasing the person in it.

When it comes to your experience in the industry as far as diversity and being able to present yourself as you, what kind of changes do you feel like you’ve seen in the past few years? 

I think in the last few years the industry is getting more professional and I lookup to the newer generation who
highly ambitious and focussed to take the industry to newer heights. With the advent of online fashion and accessibility to the global brands, users have an array of choices, and increasing Fashion-awareness in young generations makes it an extremely lucrative avenue in today’s times, more than before.

“Vastra” how has this brand evolved and how is “Studio Vastra” different from others?

The reason for choosing the brand name, Studio Vastra is to echo the Indian aura. Keeping it basic and the name to reckon with styling Indian body types.
